Luxury VW T6.1 Campervan Conversion by Trek RV of Milton Keynes.

One of our more recent conversions here at Trek RV.

This Transporter T6.1 LWB panel van, was dropped off to us at the Trek RV conversion facility in Milton Keynes a couple of months back.

The perfect base vehicle, in the shape of a Volkswagen Transporter Highline panel van, in the 150PS DSG 2.0TDI format, we also have a full article on subject of what van to purchase here.

The brief for this conversion was a family holiday vehicle, for Adam and his crew, but also the flexibility to allow it to be used on solo surf trips and with friends etc. On this basis it was decided a LWB van would be better suited, the 400mm larger wheelbase allows for significantly more storage, and when coupled with the Reimo 3000 Variotech sliding seat/bed gives the flexibility required, when this is in its most forward position it allows significant storage behind, and is great with the children as you can bring them closer (or further away!) when required on longer trips.

Style wise, there was only one option, the Trek RV Infinity unit was swiftly chosen!

Many options were discussed, after reviewing the anticipated use by Adam we have gone with a under chassis gas setup, in the form of a 15L LPG tank, linked to a 2x burner Dometic hob, and also an oven. Lithium batteries coupled with a high capacity inverter are proving popular, however as an oven was required on this particular conversion LPG was deemed to be the most suited option, another benefit of this allows the use of a external gas BBQ or Cadac or similar for impromptu al fresco creations!

Another must have option for this van conversion (and an often selected option for anyone who plans on doing any form of water sport) is the Webasto Evo heating and hot water setup, coupled with the 48L under chassis water tanks this give the option of a hot shower (via the discreet under bumper mounted connection).

Moving inside the van, after some (read – quite a lot!) of thought the classy walnut laminate, with the complimentary Altro flooring was chosen, to keep things fresh and timeless this has been contrast with the white unit face laminate, (in a satin finish) with great effect.

With the current trend of high end bespoke plywood products, it was decided that the edging on any drawers/doors or reveals in the unit were to be left un edged, which I think was a good decision, giving a raw contrast to the precision curves of the worktop.

The exterior of the van was not left standard, a subtle combination of correctly weighted/dropped lowering springs, and the 20″ BBS alloy wheels gives an impressive stance, and the addition of the Maxton Designs front bumper splitter and VW Sportline style side bars completing the look.

Additional functionality was added with the VW California bike rack, and the Thule Omnister 4900 awning, a great addition for the UK climate.
